Our Member Nicole Alger's show at The Agora Galley in New York City

Nicole Alger
THE SYNERGY OF MOVEMENT
THE AGORA

Press Release
Utilizing the language and spiritual color theory of the Chakra system, Nicole Alger’s flexible and imaginative works present the artist’s creative experience of color in relationship to the body and the world. Her radiant figures, done in oil with the occasional addition of gold leaf, suggest notions of healing and energetic mind/body balance. Realism in soft focus meets volatile abstraction as Alger brings the human figure to her canvas in a gentle yet recognizable fashion. She is inspired by great masters Klimt and Caravaggio, as well as by the ideas of the ancient Greeks and magical realism in literature and cinema. Departing from the classical, realistic tradition that uses color and value in the service of light and shadow to create form, Alger instead uses color as her primary vehicle for expressing the concepts brought to life in her work.

Nicole Alger was born in New York City and studied art at the Florence Academy of Art. Her work has been published in Architectural Digest and American Artist magazine and exhibited in the United States.October 7 - October 28, 2011Reception: Thursday October 13, 2011 6-8 PM

Our member Osiris Rain Rides for a Cure

Message from Osiris Rain ~~Join me in my extraordinary journey!

I will be participating in a 24 Hour fundraising event for national and local cancer initiatives. The Official 24 Hour Cycling Event of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

As well I will be taking an extra journey to pair with this fundraising event. At the beginning of April 2010 I will be embarking on an epic bicycling trip from Charlotte, NC to Los Angeles, California to help raise funds from extraordinary people like yourself for the 24 Hours of Booty cause. Please help support this transamerican journey, and also when I ride this summer in the official 24 hour ride, by donating through this page. Every little bit counts. Even one dollar makes a difference.

I am riding for my dearest family and friends that have, and are still having to battle with cancer. For those that have passed and those that are still struggling. I am riding with the hope that some day the injustice of such a horrible disease will no longer bring pain, sadness, or suffering to the beautiful lives that surround me and the lives of the rest of the world. Please join me on my journey.

Thank you everyone for your support and God bless. We are all here now.

Willem Dolphyn's production of the largest oil painting of Antwerp Skyline

Willem Dolphyn
Production of the largest oil painting of the Antwerp Skyline
About :
The International Society of Realist Painters member -
WILLEM DOLPHYN
Born in Antwerp on the 17th May 1935, Willem Leo Jan Dolphyn, the only child of Victor Dolphyn and Anna de Ridder.
As soon as Willem could hold a pencil, he began to draw, the Dolphyn family has to this day a drawing of a swan he did as a boy of four after a visit to the Antwerp Zoo.
When he was 15 years old, Willem was admitted as a student to the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he studied with Gustave de Bruyne, Anton Mastboom and Julien Creytens, but the finer points of the profession, the feeling for composition, details and colours, were imparted to him by his father Victor, who also took him from an early age to museums and galleries to see and study the works of great artists. Furthermore, he had ample opportunity, as ateacher at the Academy where he taught for 40 years, to give his son technical guidance. Willem Dolphyn said himseld about his father "He is in his life and certainly his work, my daily example"
Willem became at 17 the youngest student ever to enter the National Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp.
The first international recognition of his work came with an invitation in 1957 to show some of his minatures at an exhibition in Castle Nyenrode in Breukelen, in the province of Utrecht, Holland. The big breakthrough really came in 1968 when at an exhibition in Antwerp, 42 paintings, landscapes and still lives were sold, whilst the exhibition produced a stream of orders. Since that time, his work has spread throughout Europe and to other parts of the world.
Over the years Dolphyn has specialised in painting still life. Objects d'art, flowers, nuts and fruit. His use of special colours and beautiful light effects used with great sensitivity portraying a defineite and recognisable style.
Willem Dolphyn has not only dedicated most of his life to painting but he also teaches. He gave lessons in portrait and figure painting at the Academy of Berchem, and moreover he continues the initiative of his father, Victor, who is the founder of the new Classsic School of Traditional painting. His achievements and awards are many, culminating in his latest prestige appointment as Ambassador of Arts for the City of Antwerp.

New work by ~ The International Society's member Drago Dosen

Drago Došen was born in former Yugoslavi(Bosnia) in 1943.
Drago studied in Belgrade where he graduated from the Academy of the Aplied Arts in 1970.
Drago Došen concepts link him to the early 1970's generation of Belgrade painters who turned toward a fundamental experience of nature, reinstating the subject theme in their paintings.
In 1975, Drago started exhibiting his work, which resulted in the great interest throughout Yugoslavia and Europe. It didn’t take long before his paintings enjoyed great critiques and reviews from his fellow artists and the general public. This made him one of the most recognizable artists on the home soil at the time.
Throughout 20 years of exhibiting in a number of galleries in many countries, Drago managed to sell well over 400 paintings that went to private and public collections.

Erica Aschan - Spotlight Artists Magazine

Spotlight in Artists Magazine about The ISRP Board Member

Erica Aschan
www.ericaaschan.com
I majored in art at George Washington University in Washington DC and attended the graduate program at Pratt Institute in New York City. After school, life took me in other directions, and only much later did I start doing art again. I now divide my time between painting and raising my two young children.

Oils and pastels are my media. In my oil paintings, I like a mixture of textures – thick and thin paint, tighter and looser brushstrokes, and realism mixed with abstraction. I also like color a lot. Earth tones are hardly ever part of my palette, but I am not against them. I don’t use black from the tube, because I like so much more the blacks I get from mixing phthalo green and alizarin crimson together with ultramarine blue or dioxazine purple, and sometimes a bit of Indian yellow thrown in for warmth.

I begin on a toned, usually medium-textured canvas or board by blocking in the shapes. I like to paint alla prima, but not exclusively, and most of my paintings have a mixture of direct and layered painting. Right now I am working on painting a little larger, and on developing my direct painting – and on doing more with less brushstrokes.

I paint still lifes sometimes, but it is figurative painting that really interests me. The face is my favorite part to paint. I prefer to always have at least some of the face showing, because it is mostly the face, especially the eyes, that reveal the subject’s feelings and personality. I really don’t like painting a person whose inner self is deeply hidden. Then the painting is about the outer only, and that isn’t interesting enough for me. “Young Boy In Red Shirt” is of my young son, and his face is – to me at least – wide open to read.

Pieter Wagemans Solo exhibition , W.H. Patterson Gallery in London

Spring has arrived at W.H.Patterson in the form of the exceptional talent that is Pieter Wagemans(Chairman of The International Society of Realist Painters). We are absolutely delighted to welcome back this charismatic and modest artist for his second one man show with us. Demonstrating the complete mastery of his craft, Pieter has, this year, pushed the boundaries of design and composition and the results are staggering. Beautiful, bright, modern and crisp panels of exquisite perfection are the reward for his innovation.

We will be posting photographs of the gallery opening soon.....

The International Society of Realist Painter's newest member - Stephen Lawler

About Stephen Lawler ~
My paintings are fragments of unknown narratives, stories steeped in atmosphere with characters that invite the viewer to speculate and identify. Created out of a love of all that evokes nostalgia my work is crafted from an acute admiration of the old masters (Caravaggio and Rembrandt in particular) and a keen interest in cinema, philosophy and literature.

OSIRIS RAIN : NEW WORKS

OSIRIS RAIN: NEW WORKS

OPENING RECEPTION AND PUBLIC ARTIST'S TALK: Friday, April 13th at 6:30 pm
Spring is here! Join us for wine and wonderful art in the heart of NoDa!

EXHIBITION: April 2nd – 27th, 2007
Please call for an appointment

Osiris Rain began his traditional training in drawing in Florence, Italy at the Angel Academy of Art under Maestro Michael John Angel, and later apprenticed under painter to Odd Nerdrum in Stavern, Norway. He has exhibited in North Carolina, Canada, Italy, and Norway. His works are included both private and public collections internationally. Rain works exclusively from the live model, grinds his own pigments, and creates his own ground in the classical method. He is also an avid writer and often displays his writings and poetry together with the exhibitions of his paintings.

Osiris believes that strives to bring dignity and beauty to mankind, to elevate, and exult the human condition. Every tear and sorrow, every joy and laughter, is a reason to celebrate the everyday as unique. He believes the best way to achieve this is through the representation of recognizable situations, figures, and emotions that resonate through time and space, that all of humanity can relate to in camaraderie, from the rich to the poor, from the educated to the non-educated. Through his paintings Rain seeks to bring people together, and to help them realize that there is not so much difference between us. These new works are a reflection on the artist's personal connections with the world around him implementing the lineages of both personal and time honored symbolism. Osiris has divulged away from his traditionally dark set palette, and has implemented the bold usage of striking blues, purples, greens, and reds encapsulating the dramatic light akin to the setting sun. In the talk back Osiris will will speak on the personal stories behind the the symbolism prevalent in his work.

About the society's member ~ Erica Aschan

About me
I was born and raised in Finland by a Scandinavian father and an American mother. There is a part of both countries in me. My family is artistic on both sides, although only one member of my family was a career artist. That was my American grandfather, who was a portrait and landscape painter in Missouri. When I was young, my mother painted quite a lot. Her beautiful abstract expressionist paintings resonated with me. In some way, I am influenced by her, although our styles are so different. My other greatest influence was growing up in Finland: the simplicity of Finnish design, the quietude of the people, the stillness of the beautiful Finnish nature, the uncrowdedness, and the cleanliness of both city and countryside. My primary interests are psychology and spiritual philosophy. I am interested in the inner life of everybody and everything. Even inanimate objects I feel exude some sort of energy.

Jan Esmann ~ Contemporary Figurative Painter from Denmark

Four Clones Worshiping a Volcano, 2004. 130 x 185 cm. Oil on canvas.

Jan Esmann ~ is one of the leading danish artists of the contemporary figurative painting in Scandinavia.

"Modern contemporary art, especially modern contemporary painting, has turned towards a renewed interest in the craft of figurative painting. Modern contemporary art is no longer modernist art, but postmodernist art, and as such a renewed interest in the almost lost craft of figurative painting, that modernism killed off, is only natural. As modern artists, in the true sense of the word modern, we have to reinvent classical painting skills in a new form of figure painting. Only this way can we move modern painting forward."Jan Esmann 2005.

German realist painter Manfred Honig, is interested in the interaction of emotions, associations, and thoughts between the artist and his outer world, which he tries to convey in his paintings by interpreting and changing what he visually observes.

A few paintings by our new member, Sergei Aparin

Russian painter, Sergei Aparin has recently become a member of our group, so we thought you would enjoy viewing some of his work. These are just a few of my personal favorites.
Take some time out to view his portfolio,it is time well spent- I assure you! ~Metta
http://www.aparin.com/index.html

Sergei Aparin - a Russian visionary surrealist, defends man's right to hope and have faith in the existence of a different world that will transform the illusion of dreams into the illusion of life.
